About the AI technique
The AWARENESS INTENSIVE is a breakthrough training course structured as a one day contemplative workshop or a three-day residential seminar and workshop.
At the Awareness Intensive we will be practicing concentration by holding our focus on the object of meditation. This means that we will be bringing to our awareness everything that is the result of that contemplation, and through communicating all of the content in our consciousness to another individual, we can say that we are freeing ourselves of all the content that is not our true self.
This technique of self-development combines:
- The modern therapy technique of sharing ones experience with another individual, communication one on one.
- The ancient contemplative technique of Ātma-Vichara (Self Enquiry) by asking the question ‘Who am I?’
- A form of an intensive zen retreat (withdrawal) and contemplation on a certain question resembling a zen koan.
“Who am I?” or “Where does this I emerge from?” – the final goal is attaining a state of continuous consciousness of the “I” considered to be responsible for all activities in the mind and body.
Based on the original Enlightenment Intensive, many similar techniques have been derived or created (for example, the Gnosis Intensive), some of which last less than three days and their creators have arguments for their shortened versions. The final word of the creator and perfector of EI was that EI has to last three full days, and that shorter versions do not deserve to be called an Enlightenment Intensive. Our version of the Enlightenment Intensive is AI (Awareness Intensive) which lasts for one day, although we prefer the duration of three whole days, so that the beneficial changes participants experience at the AI become integrated in higher capacity.
The creator of the classic Enlightenment Intensive is Yogeśvara Muni (Charles Berner), and while taking into consideration all of his observations, experiences and conclusions he arrived to after twenty five years of perfecting his method, we will not stop at that.
Awareness Intensive is one of the most powerful dyad* techniques (done in pairs, with a new partner of your choice from the group, every 40 minutes) used for spiritual development or self-discovery known today. The technique combines the oriental practice of contemplation on the question “Who/What am I?” with occidental communication techniques. AI also includes individual techniques. The basic AI dyad technique can also been done independently, without a partner. However, at the AI, use the advantage of the fact that having the support of the instructor and a partner enables you to surpass yourself.
Our intent is not to indoctrinate you or impose any kind (our own or others’) concepts or beliefs regarding the Absolute Truth/Reality. We are simply willing to help you discover it for yourself. The technique does not include discussions on what Truth is or what it should be for you.
AI changed many people’s lives for the better and we are open to the possibility that you also may be ready to improve your own life, to use (your) the opportunity for a deep breakthrough towards a Direct Experience of Unconditional Truth. That way, your own personal experience will also confirm the value and qualities of this perfected Awareness Intensive.
What kind of effect can the Awareness Intensive have on your life?
We would all like to have a magic wand so we could change our lives and solve all our problems with one simple flick. The reason behind this is our inability to look at our own reflection in the mirror and accept what we see. We would rather if there weren’t any mirrors. But, we are not alone in this world, and others are our true mirrors. That is why often, the very thing we don’t like in others is really our own reflection. There is an old saying: It takes one to know one. Can you see the truth behind these words?
This life would not exist if there were no relationships, if there were no interpersonal contacts, connectedness, communication. It is that kind of interdependence that makes life alive. If we want to live this life fully, sooner or later we must ask ourselves – who is the one who wants to connect with others? That is why AI uses a communicational technique as an important part of the path towards a life that is more real, towards deeper and truthful interpersonal relationships.
AI might not solve all your life problems, but it will spark awake the high aspirations of your soul and the motivation to see, with greater clarity, into the truth of things and who you really are. Remember, the sole purpose of AI is direct experience of the Absolute (personal and impersonal) Truth.
Here are some experiences you may achieve at the AI:
- Feeling that you always have a choice
- Greater connectedness to yourself
- Greater clarity and sense of your direction in life
- Living in harmony with your own highest values
- A sense of peace, light-heartedness and security
- Empathy for yourself and others
- Deep interpersonal relationships
- A deep sense that life is worth living
- Gratitude for being exactly who you are
- Greater awareness of who you are and what you truly want
If you are open enough to accept this technique as something that could completely change your understanding of who you really are, than AI will have that kind of effect on your life. The nature of the observed depends on the nature of the observer. The AI technique was created with one goal in mind – to lift all the differentiations, obstacles and illusions separating the observer from the observed. The meaning and effect that AI will have on your life mostly depends on you and what it is that you really want.
If you want to:
- Have greater awareness and live a more conscious life
- Find a deeper meaning in life
- ‘Jump’ into the unknown to explore reality
- Realise truth directly, without the agency of the mind, emotions, physical senses
- Achieve true connectedness to yourself
- Have authentic relationships with others
- Motivation to realise your goals in life
AI might be just the thing for you! If you are interested click on our workshop schedule.
WARNING: This residential workshop is not recommended to individuals with serious mental or psychological disorders, drug addicts, persons suffering from epilepsy and persons with heart disease.
See you at the AI!
What if during the AI you do not even achieve a spark of the Direct Realisation of Truth of who/what you are?
Although the AI will enable most of the participants, who have the intention to achieve the Direct Experience of Truth, to reach zen-enlightenment, there is no guarantee for it. However, what you will achieve, at the least, is a deeper, broader, heightened state of consciousness from which you will know what to do, and which will enable you with the capacity to do it.
All your prejudice (your beforehand created ideas) about what the Direct Realisation of Truth is, and how it is achieved should be left behind once you decide to come to the AI. Give up your suffering (self-imposed mental limitations) to discover true and eternal freedom.
The AI workshop gives the participants an opportunity to experience deep insights about themselves, about life and others, and a true transformation of their personality and character, helping them to point their lives in the direction of greater harmony and a deeper, broader, greater, more intensified awareness. The AI programme is a powerful exploration of the true nature of your own being.
What is the best way to prepare myself for the Intensive?
Here, you can find beneficial advice regarding preparation for the Intensive that will help you achieve an experience of greater quality.
If you generally do not lead a healthy lifestyle, try to do the following at least a few days before the Intensive:
- change your habits regarding bedtime and go to sleep earlier so you would be as rested as possible for your participation in the Intensive
- Eat and drink in moderation (it is beneficial not to burden your organism with heavy food). Also, if you have a habit of drinking a lot of coffee and smoking, we recommend you try taking it down to a minimum, or completely stopping a few days before the Intensive.
- abstain from sexual activities so you have as much energy as possible for your practices at the Intensive. Plan fewer things to do the day before the Intensive. Spend time relaxing (in nature, or at home), or reading spiritual literature to mentally prepare for the Intensive.
The most important thing is to foster a high and genuine aspiration towards the direct realisation of truth 🙂
The right motivation and high aspiration are key for the successful performance of the technique and achieving the experience you came for. Surrender yourself unconditionally in the search for your own truth.
What do I need to bring to the Intensive?
Bring the following with you to the Intensive:
- A mat or a sleeping bag
- A meditation pillow (we will provide chairs for anyone who has back problems, and finds it difficult to sit on a pillow)
- A cover (if you get cold easily)
Wear comfortable, non-constraining clothes so you can perform the technique more easily. We will have a one-hour break for lunch and we suggest you bring food and drink with you, so you wouldn’t lose time looking for a nearby store/restaurant. Bring some light, vegetarian food, because you will not be able to work through the other half of the Intensive, which is as important as the first half. If your stomach is too full, the concentration on your goal weakens and the technique cannot be performed with full capacity.
Leave behind all your pre-constructed ideas about what enlightenment is and how it can be attained, and bring your aspiration towards the absolute / eternal truth. Bring your unwavering aspiration to realise the truth of things through your own experience.
Only with that kind of spiritual attitude can we all, together surpass and overcome all obstacles and pitfalls on our Path towards the Truth.
